The Colac Vets had ten riders for their last monthly medal for the year.

Riders raced with moderate warm north easterly winds.

Lone limit rider Peter Neal had an 8-minute head start on the next bunch of four riders.

He was caught by the remaining three riders half way into the second of two laps.

The back markers caught Neal with 6Km to go but were unable to catch the three leaders coming in one minute behind them.

Gerard Hickey has been in fine form this year and claimed his third win ahead of Luke Rowe and David O’Dwyer.

Ralph Iselt led the next four riders in to take fastest time.

Hickey also went into the last race for aggregate points with an unassailable lead.

He finished on 89 points, ahead of Ralph Iselt on 70 points and Andrew Pownceby on 66 points.

The Colac Vets had just six riders for their club race.

Riders once again had to put up with strong winds, this time coming from the east.

Lone limit rider Murray Matthews had already taken off from the start line, when the handicapper decided to give him an extra two minutes head start to allow for the strong winds.

This worked out well for Matthews, with him coming in with just 14 seconds to spare over the chasing bunch of four riders to take the win.

After a lead out from David Coventry, Ralph Iselt led the four riders in to take second with Gavin O’Brien in third place and Gerard Hickey in fourth.

Lone scratchman Andrew Pownceby had a tough day out but did manage to save fastest time by 55 seconds.

The Colac Vets had just seven riders entered for their club race.

With the low numbers it was decided to shorten the race.

Just as well, as riders had to cope with very strong westerly winds and were belted with rain over the final 5Km.

On top of that, riders competed over a three lap course going over the Alvie hill and Lineen’s hill three times.

Lone scratchman Andrew Pownceby revelled in the tough conditions, first catching and passing second scratch and then the two remaining third scratch riders in the final 2Km.

David Coventry was second with Gerard Hickey in third place.

The Colac Vets had a small field of just eight riders racing in cool and moderately windy but dry conditions for their delayed July monthly medal.

The two scratchmen gave a 5 minute start to a bunch of four riders and 21 minutes start out to lone limit rider Murray Matthews.

The second scratch foursome lost Steve Hamling early with him having not raced since the end of May.

The remaining three riders did however pick up lone 10 minute rider Gerard Hickey who acquitted himself well with matching turns of pace.

Matthews was caught by this group after the halfway mark.

Heading to the finish with 2.5Km to go, on the small rise at Coragulac corner, the scratchmen caught the leaders by surprise and burst past and cleared away.

Andrew Pownceby led Grant Oates in to take his third win for the year.

Ralph Iselt led the remaining riders in for third place.

The Colac Vets had a field of thirteen riders for their club race.

Riders started in icy conditions with strong north westerly winds.

With the rain still coming down at 8 o’clock in the morning the riders were lucky to avoid the wet for the entire race with a 3-hour window of no rain.

The four strong scratch bunch chased a 7-minute gap to the next four riders and 17 minutes out to the two limit riders.

The seven-minute bunch got off to a bad start losing Mark Flett after just 1.5Km and then Ralph Iselt at the 5Km mark.

Leaving Heather Hamling and Arno van der Schans to try and hold off scratch.

Meanwhile the two limit riders were caught by the 12-minute trio before the halfway mark.

Midway into the second of two laps this group of five was down to two riders.

The scratchmen had picked up Iselt and then finally caught Hamling and van der Schans with 4Km to go.

The two leaders were now within reach.

Heading to the Cororooke Hall finish with a tailwind, scratchmen Andrew Pownceby wound up the pace.

But the two leaders held on with just 15 seconds to spare with Gerard Hickey taking the win over David O’Dwyer.

Grant Oates put in a good performance to take third place and fastest time.

The scratchmen caught second scratch with 6Km to go and a kilometre later caught the 10 minute riders.

Heading to the Cororooke Hall finish, David O’Dwyer had put in a good solo effort to come in with one minute and twenty seconds to spare to take the win.

The three scratchmen led the rest of the field in with Andrew Pownceby taking fastest time over Shaun Thompson and Grant Oates.

The Colac Vets had a field of thirteen riders including three guest riders from Geelong

Riders raced in perfect conditions.

The two Geelong scratch riders, Jesse Cropley and Martin Lonie, were chasing a big gap of seven minutes to the two Colac second scratch riders.

With another two minute gap to a bunch of five riders including Geelong’s Anna Lonie.

Lone limit rider David O’Dwyer was out on 21 minutes.

Heading down to the end of Melrose Road on the second of two laps with 11Km to go the 9 minute bunch caught the 14 minute bunch and the limit rider.

When the two scratchmen reached the end of Melrose Road a misunderstanding saw Martin Lonie turn right instead of left leaving Jesse Cropley to ride the rest of the race on his own.

As the leaders headed up and over Lineen’s hill, Anna Lonie offered a long lead out to the finish line with Ralph Iselt coming off her wheel to take the win ahead of Arno

van der Schans and Heather Hamling.

Jesse Cropley came in one minute and thirty seconds behind to take fastest time.

Heading to the Cororooke Hall finish, five riders remained in the lead to contest the win.

Gavin O’Brien continued his improvement to claim his second win as well as a second place for the month of May.

The Colac Vets had a field of nine riders for their monthly.

Riders raced in cold conditions with strong westerly winds.

It was decided to shorten the race from 55Km to 43Km with the low numbers, tough course and conditions.

Grant Oates having his first race of the year and coming in a little under done was still made to ride solo off the scratch mark chasing three riders.

The two 11.00 minute limit riders were caught by the three riders off the 6.30 minute after the half way mark.

As the four remaining leaders were cresting Lineen’s hill the three second scratch riders were at the bottom of the hill with not enough distance left to catch the leaders.

Heading to the finish line, last weeks winner Gavin O’Brien, and Peter Theodore were battling it out to claim their first monthly medal.

Theodore just edged out O’Brien to take the win with Gerard Hickey in third place.

A little further back Steve Hamling did a big lead out with Ralph Iselt just getting past Heather Hamling to lead these three in.

As it turned out Iselt claimed fastest time with Grant Oates losing time to the second scratch trio.

Riders avoided the thick fog out at Cororooke that had blanketed Colac.

Andrew Pownceby was once again the lone scratchman, this time giving a 5 minute start to the next three riders and 15 minutes out to lone limit rider Bruce Roberts.

The north westerly winds picked up a little as the race progressed.

The three second scratch riders caught the next three riders, as well as Roberts, a third of the way into the second of two laps.

But lone 12 minute rider Gavin O’Brien, who had been setting a steady pace, was still out of sight and was caught with 4Km to go.

Coming around the church corner into the home straight O’Brien went back to the front to lead the field out.

O’Brien, who is slowing regaining some form since recovering from a broken leg, went on to cross the line first ahead of Ralph Iselt and Steve Hamling.

Twenty kilometres later and the time gap still was about the same.

With 16Km to go the second scratch bunch was in the lead and getting help with turns of pace from caught rider Gerard Hickey.

As they crested Lineen’s hill with 7Km to go, only four riders remained in the lead.

Heather Hamling finished off the last 400 metre climb up to the Red Rock toilet block the best to finish ahead of Arno van der Schans in second, Steve Hamling in third and Gerard Hickey in fourth place.
