Riders once again had to put up with strong winds, this time coming from the east.
Lone limit rider Murray Matthews had already taken off from the start line, when the handicapper decided to give him an extra two minutes head start to allow for the strong winds.
This worked out well for Matthews, with him coming in with just 14 seconds to spare over the chasing bunch of four riders to take the win.
After a lead out from David Coventry, Ralph Iselt led the four riders in to take second with Gavin O’Brien in third place and Gerard Hickey in fourth.
Lone scratchman Andrew Pownceby had a tough day out but did manage to save fastest time by 55 seconds.

Matthews was caught by this group after the halfway mark.
Heading to the finish with 2.5Km to go, on the small rise at Coragulac corner, the scratchmen caught the leaders by surprise and burst past and cleared away.

The Colac Vets had a field of thirteen riders including three guest riders from Geelong
Riders raced in perfect conditions.
The two Geelong scratch riders, Jesse Cropley and Martin Lonie, were chasing a big gap of seven minutes to the two Colac second scratch riders.
With another two minute gap to a bunch of five riders including Geelong’s Anna Lonie.
Lone limit rider David O’Dwyer was out on 21 minutes.
Heading down to the end of Melrose Road on the second of two laps with 11Km to go the 9 minute bunch caught the 14 minute bunch and the limit rider.
When the two scratchmen reached the end of Melrose Road a misunderstanding saw Martin Lonie turn right instead of left leaving Jesse Cropley to ride the rest of the race on his own.
As the leaders headed up and over Lineen’s hill, Anna Lonie offered a long lead out to the finish line with Ralph Iselt coming off her wheel to take the win ahead of Arno
van der Schans and Heather Hamling.

It was decided to shorten the race from 55Km to 43Km with the low numbers, tough course and conditions.
